Agricultural Communism
There was barely any Agricultural Communism in the Middle East because it was not a major part of their economy.
Nationalism
Nationalism is very important in the middle east as it sparks the drive to start revolutions and gain independence. Many countries in the Middle East are very nationalistic and eventually do gain their independence.
Zionism is a form of nationalism of Jews and Jewish culture. It supports Jews up holding their Jewish identity. Zionism was originally an international movement for the establishment of a Jewish national and religious community in Palestine. The movement eventually succeeded in establishing Israel on May 14, 1948 as a homeland for Jewish people. All of this showed nationalism because Zionism started in the late 1800s and Jews did not lose faith in their nation and fought to finally succeed after almost 50 years.
In Afghanistan nationalism is shown because Soviets tried to influence the government to communism and give Afghanistan's culture a western slant. But the citizens of Afghanistan came together as one, with faith in their nation and fought back keep their traditions.

Independence
From 1979 to 1988, Afghanistan was locked into heated combat against the Soviets. The prime minister of Afghanistan agreed to communism and made an alliance with the soviets, who eventually invaded the country to spread its influence. The afghans did not comply and made guerrilla force called the 'Mujaheddin'. Soviets had a great disadvantage because the Mujaheddin knew the complex terrain of their country and they did not. Also, there were small tribes throughout Afghanistan and they used the element of surprise to win battles. On the other hand, the afghans were outnumbered and outgunned. Eventually, against the odds the afghans drove the soviets out of their country.

Revolution
There were many revolutions in the middle east during the cold war. One of them occurred in Afghanistan. The prime minister of Afghanistan wanted to get rid of Muslim traditions and have a more western slant to their culture. But the people did not want that so they revolted by joining forces with a guerrilla group known as the mujaheddin and fought against the prime minister. In the end the people won and kept their traditions and beliefs.
Another revolution could be seen in Golda Meir. She symbolizes revolution because she was Israel's first lady prime minister. Meir led her country and spoke to the world openly with her feelings. At the 1972 summer Olympics Meir appealed to the world to "save our citizens and condemn the unspeakable criminal acts committed". Also when seven Jewish emigrants were taken hostage by Austrian Chancellor Bruno Kreisky, Meir tried to convince him to let them go. Lastly, she lead Israel in the Yom Kippur War. The Minister of Defense did not think that war was certain but Meir made a smart decision and approved a full scale mobilization.Golda Meir was described as the "Iron Lady" and portrayed as the "strong-willed, straight-talking, grandmother of the Jewish people". This connects to revolution because she was one of the first women to lead a country the way she did.
There are also anti-Zionist who think that Zionism is racist ideology. Some Jews are also anti-Zionist because they think the Zionist movement in the main cause of antisemitism throughout the world. Some of these Jews revolt on the streets by holding up signs to show that Jews do no support the movement.

Modernism
In Iran, the Shah, Mohammed Reza Pahlavi, wanted to modernize in a way that the citizens didn't approve of. Pahlavi embraced the ideas of the west and took in their oil companies. Iranian nationalists did not take this well and united with Prime Minister Muhammad Mossaddeq. Together they captured and nationalized a British oil company and forced the shah to flee. With the US's help, the Shah westernized Iran. Iran's Muslim leaders called the ayatollahs hated this, they saw the western tradition as corrupt and wanted Iran to be rule strictly by Islamic Law. To get the US to withdraw from Iran, a group of young revolutionists captured over 60 Americans hostages, they were there for over a year. In the end, the ayatollah were the winners when they returned from exhile and they banished western culture and replaced it with their Islamic ideas.
